How to check a Texas pest control license
Every company you reach through this number is independent, and checking its license is your job. It takes one phone call.
Who licenses them
The Texas Department of Agriculture regulates the trade through its Structural Pest Control Service. Its consumer sheet says it licenses businesses, certified applicators and technicians and registers apprentices, and that applicators and technicians must pass a written exam.
Companies must be licensed to provide commercial pest control in Texas.
How to check
Ask the company
Get the company's legal name and ask for verification of its license. The state tells consumers to ask for this.
Call the state
Call the Structural Pest Control Service at 866-918-4481. The Department says you can call to confirm a company has a license. The department's email is spcs@TexasAgriculture.gov.
Ask for more in writing
Questions about employees or complaint history go in writing to the Public Information Officer, Structural Pest Control Service, PO Box 12847, Austin, Texas 78711-2847. The Department says expect an answer in seven to ten business days.
Termite work
Ask about the termite experience and training of the person doing the inspection, as the state suggests. A termite proposal should carry the signature of someone licensed in the termite category.
If something goes wrong
Talk to the company first. If that fails, the Department takes complaints about pesticide misuse, unlicensed work and inaccurate termite reports, at the same number or by email. An inspector is assigned and reports to its Enforcement Division. It says not to repair termite damage or re-treat before the inspector has looked, if you can wait.
